Pencil Pushers, Liam Cooke

The mockumentary style Movie Pencil Pushers consists of a new up and coming cast starring Thomas Blake, and Nick Colaco which I had the pleasure to partake in. These two play multiple roles in the movie showing off their genios in terms of acting. Staring as one character in the first, then changing to a completely different one the next. A set of true actores with great chemistry while working together. No other set of performers could pull off what these two have, and with such short time that there was to perform. I would be surprised to see if they didn't get picked up right out of school to star in a high skilled set. As for the movie it is based around one David and the aftermath of his closest friends death, Ebraham from uses of pencils, and pens. The film sticks with david as he climbs the ladder to the top, Taking out the head dealer to take his place and rule the market, however his plans are interrupted by the knowledge of the killing of his friend. He finds out that LGM killed Ebraham, and now plans to do the same with David. We then find a different side of david, not doing this because he feels like it, but to avenge his fallen friend. This brings a whole new level of detail and sincerity to watching the movie after discovering this detail. It is shown in the beginning of the film that Ebraham dies, and that it was of pencils but it does not show who sold him the pencils.
The film was well done in respects of execution, however lacked in character development and regards for the audience. There were many lines that were blurring the step between acceptable and not. For instance in the car scene where LGM talks to David there was a hard cut out of the audio, and subtitles that didn't match up with the actual dialog being said in the film.I feel like this would have put the movie in a different rating bracket if it was left in. Another question about the film was what its intention was to do. Was it supposed to go against drug use of inforce it? There was no real message to the movie as a whole and left me confused as to what we are trying to say with it. What i took from it was that it was bringing to light the drug problem in our state and country, with drugs being one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. However I did not feel like it was showing that there could be a solution to this problem, and that it just shows what people do to live with it, and the costs they take to sooth their addiction. It also could have a message showing how bad the life with drugs is, there for preventing anyone that had second thoughts about entering the field.

During the process of making the film there were many obstacles, the biggest being meetup times, with all three of us having work almost everyday of the week we found it incredibly difficult to figure out times that worked for the group and wouldn't be when the weather was acting up. Also more obstacles include the short time span in relations to making a movie, equipment, and finally the due date. Having to make a 15 minute movie with 15 pages worth of script in a month isnt easy, however we got it done with little time to spare. Another huge bump in the road of movie making was getting our hands on any equipment. With a budget of zero dollars and zero cents getting ahold on a camera that was decent at filming would be nearly impossible, but luckily for us we had a member in our group that worked with cameras before and could get a good filming one for us to use for our film. Over all the film was well made for the environment that we were given and was a relieving mockumentary comedy in spots with purposeful cringe moments. With good details and little easter eggs hidden within the film to give the viewer a different sense of depth to watching the movie, and makes it an easy movie to watch twice if they did not pick it up the first time.
