Be Real Blog #2 The Benchwarmers

Last Thursday I watched the movie The Benchwarmers and I enjoyed the comedy film. The film was released in April 2006 and Rob Schneider, David Spade, and Jon Heder star in it. Each of these actors are in many comedy films and are famously hysterical in movies. In this movie, three older men begin to play baseball and and they play against other local little league teams. Three men against nine little leaguers. They do this to prove that kids who are so called ¨nerds¨ in the town can still play baseball and be regular kids without getting bullied all the time. Even Gus (Rob Schneider), Richie (David Spade), and Clark (Jon Heder) get bullied by the coaches of the other teams and also were not popular as kids. Throughout the movie, everything looks as if it were in the mid 2000ś where little league baseball was at its peak. The houses, clothing, and everything around it looks as if it were in the mid 2000´s. The director, Dennis Dugan has made many comedy films with many of the same actors and he does a great job every time fitting his actors personalities and putting them in a role that they can perform at a very high level. The film was made very well and every kid that is shown to be a nerd is easy to tell apart from the bullies just by the way the director makes the kids talk and how they dress. In the movie, Clark, Richie, and Gus join a tournament in which the winner wins a stadium and the three friends were playing for the ¨nerds¨ around town and every other team was playing for themselves. Later, everyone finds out the Gus is not what he says he is. Gus claimed that he was bullied as a kid meanwhile he was the bully when he was a kid. Because of his lies, all of Gus´ friends become upset with him and he does not play in the tournament championship. Throughout the game, the bullies on the opposing team learn that it is not cool to be so mean to kids and they make friends with everyone. By the end of the movie, Gus, the bullies, and the nerds are all friends. Dennis Dugan does a very good job of putting the audience in the nerd´s shoes and the audience feels for them. By the end of the movie the audience learns that it is not good to be mean to kids and while it is a comedy, there is a lesson that gets through to the audience.
I feel that this movie was a good, good rating. The movie was very enjoyable and funny and also well made. It was a very easy movie to watch that I would definitely would watch again. I felt for the nerds in this movie and was always rooting against the bullies baseball teams. Because their coaches came off as very mean people as well as the players, it was very easy to root for Clark, Richie, and Gus´ team. Even after people realize that Gus was not what he said he was, the audience still feels for Gus during the time where his friends are upset with him because they knew that Gus has changed since his time of being a bully. When Gus apologizes to one of his victims, I felt for him and wanted his friends to forgive him. A great movie put together and one where the director does a great job throughout the film.
