Today in class we learned how to properly create and analyze the class summary blogs as well as how to create a Be Reel blog. We analyzed Finn's blog from Thursday, which gave us a very good idea of what an ideal blog should look like. We were told the criteria that the blogs have to meet. One criteria is word count. The blogs should be anywhere from 300-500 words, however, there is no hard word cap on the blogs, just make sure that they aren't too much longer than 500 words. The blogs should also be specific about the subject of the class. If the blogs aren't able to completely fill in a student who was absent that day than it's not specific enough. The title is also an important aspect of the blogs. The title should reflect what was learned in class that day. The blog should also include a section where you extend what was learned into the real world, or in other words, how the skills learned in class can be applied in real life. The daily blogs must also be posted before 10:00 PM on that day, except for on Fridays where the blogs will be due that Saturday at 10:00 PM.
The next subject we covered was the Be Reel blogs. There will be two of these blogs every marking period. These blogs will essentially be a review of the movies that you have watched. These blogs will only be two paragraphs, the first will be an objective review of the show or movie, the second will be a subjective review. These blogs will also include one of four ratings, good bad, good good, bad good, or bad bad. The first good/bad in the rating is the objective quality of the movie. This includes things like the quality of acting and quality of special effects. The second good/bad will be the magnitude of enjoyment you got from the movie. This is very subjective so this rating is decided by you. These blogs have to be 400-500 words and a title that reflects what you thought about the movie. To go along with the blogs you must pin a notecard to the board in the front of the room with the movie title and your name under one of the four ratings you gave the movie.
The skills that we learned in class today will help us write better with both a subjective view and an objective view though practice. Being able to write with both of these perspectives will not only help us pass English class but will also allow us to express our views more effectively in the real world, whether it's in casual conversation or formal writing for a future job.
