A Good Good Movie: IT

In the film, IT, directed by Andres Muschietti, a group of seven "outcast" kids go through trials and tribulations while attempting, and eventually succeeding in taking down their worst nightmare. Over the duration of the long summer displayed in the film, the group of heroic kids face their fears, and eventually take down "IT." The reoccurring theme of the film is fear, and is seen throughout, as it was established that once the group instilled fear into the monster, they won. The film was an adaptation of the original novel written by Stephen King in 1986. The director adapted it in such a way to shorten the story, and include only the key details in order to effectively include suspense, fear, and enjoyment for the audience. The film starts off showing the theme of childhood innocence, in that the main character, Georgie, is shown chasing a paper boat in the rain. The boat falls down the drain, and of course Georgie attempts to find it. As he is in the process of doing so, he comes across a set of flaring yellow eyes, tries to run away to safety, but then miraculously hears a voice. The voice of course being "IT." The voice was the clown, and the clown offers Georgie a balloon, and takes him into the drain with him, and makes him bleed to his death. The next summer, the group of misfits encounter strange occurrences, and then come to link it to deaths in their communities, and further document the monster who is killing these people as "IT." Without giving away too much of the film, the next component of the film was the theme of adulthood. The group gets back together with the intention of taking down the clown. They succeed in taking down the clown by successfully instilling fear into the creature, which appeals to the overall theme of fear seen throughout the film. With that being said, the tight knit attitude of the group proved to be the reason why they were able to take down the clown, and the director did a great job of dissecting the original novel in a way to not include every detail, but also include the key details that instilled fear into the audience.

My overall rating for the film would be a good good. It was directed tremendously, with great actors, amazing graphics, and a good overall sense of fear. The director used dark colors to create an eery and gloomy feel in order to appeal to the audience's emotions. In addition to that, the movie was extremely enjoyable to watch because there was a good mix of scene-setting and action. We all have our fears from our childhood, and to actually be able to see someone fighting back against their fears from early in life later in life was very exciting to experience. I would definitely be interested in seeing this film many more times, and with that I would give it an overall rating of a good good film.
