Daily Blog 2/8

Mr Rivers started class today by saying that we can ask any question we want about senior papers and started the class with some notes.
"Adaptation: Choices in the Medium
Functions of cinematic Choices
Choices in Narrative Structure
Academic Research and Writing
Whiting Choices and Their Effects
TODAY: GENRE!"
Today we are examining choices made by directions, screenwriters, actors, the effect of their choices on the world in large. Main focus is genre, but we will still be looking at some themes. Mr. Rivers then had us look at this quote, “Personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures” F.Scott Fitzgerald, and were told to talk among or group about what it means A few of the things said were, "Don’t get to define your personality on what you want it to be, but how others see you","This is about what you are doing", and "What you do it part of your personality." We then went on to specify what certain parts of the quotes means. Unbroken series means that it is continuous. Mr. Rivers then asked what changes if we change personality to genre? This definition can also apply to genre and what were talking about here is patterns. Instead of the word pattern, Mr. Rivers wants us to use "Conventions" for future use.
We are starting a new film in class today, but since it was a half day, we only watched a little more than the introduction. The movie we are watching is Baby Driver. We spent the later half of class watching the film, but before the film started, Mr Rivers told us to copy and paste this into a doc, and that we’re watching with a THEMATIC focus.
A) How do choices in the film’s composition* develop assertions about music**? (1 sentence/day)
M.E.S, editing, structure
B) This is most certainly an action movie. Identify TWO other genres that classify this film. Which artistic choices* develop that pattern**? (2-3/genre)
*CAUSE **EFFECT
A way we can further this into real life, is the thematic focus and genre part of today's class. Genre is in every from of entertainment, and themes are in entertainment as well. This is meant to help us recognize things in films, and to be able to look at entertainment a different way. By being able to find themes and genres, it helps the film become more clear towards the audience.
