Today in class was a very sad day as Mr. Rivers was not present to teach us all about the wonderful world of film literature. While the whole class missed him very much we still had to stay focused as we had very important work to do for the period. Today was an independent work day for our summer reading essays due Wednesday October 23 at 11:59 PM. Mr. Rivers strongly encouraged our class to use today's class time effectively in making progress on this assignment, and I believe many of us made good use of our time whether it was brainstorming our essay, starting our essay, or finishing up our book.
Many people are at different spots in the summer reading essay assignment, but for those of you who are ahead of the game and ready to rock this essay remember to follow the main points Mr. Rivers went over in class yesterday about how to structure the essay. These points can be found on the google classroom page where you will choose which scenario you will base your essay on about your book which has been turned into a film. Remember when structuring your essay that your thesis should examine/argue the adaptation of your text from book to film, topic sentences should establish relationships between book and film, evidence should support your claims, and analysis should focus on breaking down certain parts of the text and film. Refer to your class notes on October 7 or Vincenzo De Simone's blog that day for more detail on how to structure your essay. Remember to use MLA format for the essay, 1,000-1,200 words, and don't submit it late with some crappy excuse at 11:55 PM on the night it's due as this will not be accepted. Also most importantly DO NOT USE OUTSIDE SCHLOCK IT IS BAD!!!
For those of you slackers who are not done with reading you summer reading book, and it has turned into a fall reading book make sure to get going on that! Finishing your book will be critical to completing this essay. You should also watch or re-watch the film based off your book as this will surely help too. Don't worry if you are one of those slackers that have not finished your book yet, I am one of those people and we can talk about our procrastination problems in class tomorrow.
One more reminder: BE REEL BLOGS are due this Thursday, October 10 at 11:59 PM. Do those too you slackers!!
I hope you enjoyed my blog today and it has helped you with achieving great success in this class.
