class blog
In today’s class, we continued working on the synthesis section of our senior paper. We continued following the “to-do” lists we made for ourselves on friday to be the the most effective and to accomplish as much as possible that we could within the period. Each of our lists are individualized to our personal needs for what we need to continue working on, and we again were asked to consider what we should add to our lists and what we need to work on tomorrow. Since this is a research paper, we have been continuing on our research within the databases that have been provided to us. One that is a very effective source and is also easy to navigate through with setting parameters for academic journals is Gale Group. This source will most likely have a scholarly article that will be useful evidence for your essay. Going back to the evaluations on editing choices we made in class on Friday, we can look at these as a another outlet for analysis on our films we chose to synthesize within our papers. We should consider various different editing choices when looking at our movie, such as jump cuts, invisible cuts, smash cuts, dissolve, wipe, and more. For example, you could look at a scene from the show The Office, specifically the first aid scene, and you would find multiple counts of each editing choice, including cross cuts, jump cuts, and L cuts. These choices can help you to create claims within your movie to help develop the narrative, thematic, or practical aspects of your film. We will continue to work on this paper on various days in class in the following days.
