Looking Out -- Kayla Edwards

Be on the Lookout for Looking Out
Looking Out, set to come out June 10, is the eye opening film about a stalker through the internet. In this day and age where society is almost dependent on technology and with an upcoming social media obsessed youth, this film will make you question when social media stalking is taken too far. When actually does harmless scrolling become harmful stalking? When Derek Jones loses his job as an FBI surveillance specialist, his increase of free time leads him to Stephanie Smith… or Stephanie’s social media platforms at least. The friendly like of a picture quickly turns into Derek breaking out his old surveillance skills to “bond” with Stephanie. Although as time continues, Derek begins to see things around Stephanie that she cannot. This leaves us wondering if Derek’s morals are in check or perhaps he is so delusional he will risk it all for a girl whom he’s never even met.
The film stars Neil Patrick Harris who skillfully expresses how Derek’s life becomes unraveled by obsession and social media. Harris is an award winning actor and will be expressing a side similar to Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events, which won its own Peabody Award. With his performance in Looking Out, the movie is likely to win awards left and right.  On the other side of things, Alexandra Daddario plays Stephanie Smith. Daddario was mostly recently seen in Baywatch, where she played the stunning Summer Quinn. She also starred in the Percy Jackson series. Daddario puts on a heroic performance in her role as Stephanie where she does ana amazing job as portraying her character as a survivor. Stephanie seems cautious with her social media as she shows worry over the people who interact with her account, however her best friend Michelle, played by Emma Stone, convinces her its okay and represents how society today takes things perhaps a little too lightly. Stone masterfully keeps things realistic in the film by acting casual, making the film seem all the more plausible to real life.
For those who are a fan of other films and other shows such as, Unfriended, 13 Cameras, and Rear Window, Looking Out is a must watch. After seeing this film you will be sure to switch all of your accounts to private and cover your webcams with a sticker. The films ultimate goal is to make people aware of the dangers of social media and how what you put online can be seen by people you may not want.
