Be Real Blog - Before I Wake

The Netflix Original movie Before I Wake directed by Mike Flanagan is about an orphan named Cody Morgan (Jacob Tremblay) whose dreams are projected into the real world. Mark and Jessie Hobson (Thomas Jane and Kate Bosworth) adopt Cody and they soon figure out that when Cody falls asleep his good dreams can produce wonderful illusions in the real world, but his bad dreams bring the deadly monster called the Canker Man to the real world. The design for the Canker Man shows the audience that he's supposed to be scary and evil which shows that the Canker Man is the problem that Mark and Jessie have to deal with in the movie. The ominous music choice for whenever one of Cody's dreams is going to turn into a nightmare conveys to the audience that something bad is going to happen involving the Canker Man. The ending of this movie simultaneously tied up loose ends from earlier in the movie while at the same time leaving the audience with questions which satisfies the audience while giving them something to discuss after the movie is over. The acting, however, was not very convincing from most of the actors and they were all bland and boring for the most part. Overall, even though the acting wasn't the best the concept of dreams coming to life in a twisted way was great and I would still rate this movie Good Good since the bad acting is one little bad thing with so many good things that this movie has.
