Today is the first day of PARCC, so that means that the class periods will be a lot shorter than usual. We started off the day with a mad dash to fill the MP4 Blog dates, Its either get it done early so that you can get it done and don’t have to worry about it, or to wait for the last minute. But the last day for blogs is June 15th. Next Mr. Rivers dropped something huge, Finals. The Film as Literature finals included two essays in writing, not one but two. We have a total of two hours to write two essays. But the light in the darkness, the good in the bad situation is that these essays are not as intense as the senior paper, and on June 1st we get our topics. So a smart person would take that time to research and prepare so then all you would have to do is connect each point already made in your notes. Also of you have an 89.5% class average from all 4 marking periods combined, you don't have to take the final. That goes for most of the other classes as well. Taking about grades, the 3rd marking period grades should be in but today or tomorrow. As we move on to the 4th marking period, we run into narrative writing and writing our own stories which could be a nice end to the year.
Moving to the bulk of the class period is the Podcast or movie review based on the movie we watched in class dodgeball. The class split into groups and got to work. The goal is the analysis of 4 skills: The understanding of tone, Theme, Humor theories, Genre Conventions, and Cosmos and chaos. The Humor theories as a recap are Incongruity(Unexpected), Superiority, and Relief(Dark Humor). Your analysis should bring in deep specific evidence. Today is your only time to prewrite and tomorrow is recording day. So use your time wisely.
For the connection to the outside world, Think food critics or movie reviewers and everything along that line of work. The idea that they must surjective dissect each part of their experience and try not to leave anything out. There is a lot of time in the research phase and the final review which usually people try to be more Objective than subjective so that more can connect to what has been said. This is what we are doing in class, As movie reviewers, we take apart the plot of the movie DodgeBall and use what we know to connect the film to what we are learning in class.
