Owner, player, and coach.. JACKIE MOON!! Semi-Pro is a sports comedy that is starred by the hilarious Will Ferrell. Semi-Pro is about a semi pro basketball team that is owned,coached, and played by Jackie Moon. The team is called the Tropics and they are located in Flint, Michigan. The team is awful and Jackie faces a block in the road during the film. If the team does not place higher than 4th the Tropics get terminated. Also with winning the tropics have to get atleast 5,000 people to come to every home game. Jackie does everything he can to accomplish both of these feats. First he starts with getting a good point guard named "Monix". Monix eventually througout the film takes over the coaching duties for Jackie Moon and gets the team going on a winning streak. The Tropics climb up the rankings eventually making it to 4th place, but there was a problem. The NBA already decided on the 4 teams that will become NBA teams because of the size of the fan base and not record. This leaves the Tropics devastated, but still play their final game against a new NBA team the San Antonio Spurs. The game is hyped up and Jackie labels the game as the Flint, Michigan mega bowl. The stadium is packed and the crowd was going wild during this close game. The game went back and forth and eventually went the tropics way after the discovery of the alley oop. Tropics went on to defeat the spurs on a game winning Monix lay up to seal the deal. The Tropics did not end up making it to the NBA, but Jackie Moon and "Coffee Black" got the promotion for their performance in the game.
The main attraction of this film is obviously Will Ferrell and the fact that he is a player, owner, and a coach. The story line is also interesting because a normal basketball team would never go through such a process like the tropics did. That makes this film more appealing to me. The fact that it is interesting, appealing, and also funny. The jokes and playing are all great, but the main theme of this film would have to be minor setback for a major comeback. The minor setback of the team having to maintain a number of fans and getting the amount of wins to remain in the top 4. The comeback was the entirety of the film while the ending was not exactly what was expected or liked to happened it still ended in a way that was positive. Overall this movie will forever be a Will Ferrell classic because of the many laughs in the film and the fact that it is a basketball movie featuring Will Ferrell. I personally believe this movie will remain a film i hold on to and will continue to tell that it is a must watch for many years to come.
