- There is only 1 theme for a text (WRONG!) --> There can be several themes for a text.
- A theme is a lesson (WRONG!) --> Theme is a particular assertion about a certain topic
- A theme can be one word long (WRONG!) --> A topic is one word.Before this information was shared with me, I had no idea what exactly theme was. I always thought it was a lesson, but I stand corrected. We also spoke about strong topics and weak topics that were represented throughout No Country for Old Men. Mr. Rivers wrote the most important topics such as money, death, suspense, and other ones in big capital letters on the whiteboard. On the other side, he wrote the weak topics such as drugs and businessmen in small lowercase letters. He told us that the topics that were the most important and repeatedly seen throughout the film were the strong topics and that the topics that were not as important and were not as focused on were the weak topics. Rewinding to the beginning of class, we brieflydiscussed the movie and shared our thoughts. I personally loved it until the ending. I loved the ongoing suspense and tension throughout the film, but I did not like how the film producers and director were lazy with how they ended the movie. Despite the lazy ending, I would definitely rate No Country for Old Men GOOD GOOD.
