10/16/17

Today in class we started with some reminders about our blogs.
1)Make sure you aren't putting your Be Real blogs off to the end of the marking period
2)When you are doing the summary of your day in class make sure to add an extension of what we learned with the outside world

We then continued to watch the movie Wall-E.  We started where the captain first learned about the plant and we finished with the scene where Wall-E and Eva try to get the plant into the core.
While we were watching the movie we were to pick out a major topic and minor topic in the film.  We would then find the tone devoted to that topic write that down and then combine the topic and tone to form a theme.

For instance with the following movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and specifically the scene below a major topic would be "friendship" and the tone given to it would be "triumphant".  You would then need to combine the tone and the topic to form a theme like "Strong friendships can not be easily broken."  You would then need to do the same thing for a minor topic for instance -
Topic - boats
Tone - freeing
Theme - Boats were the best way to travel places in Middle Earth as long as there is a body of water to travel on.

Also those topics, tones, and themes are due tomorrow but we only need to turn in 5.  One was for the first day which could be a major or minor topic, the other four are from Friday and today, two from each day, one major topic one minor per day.  Since we are so close to the ending we won't have to write anything for tomorrow.

  1. Great description of class events, especially in regards to upcoming deadlines and other valuable information that students should know. Gives you a nice blend of business and learning that happen in this blog. LotR example is a good one, but consider that your theme should assert claims that exist beyond the text. Yes, you’re using the text as evidence, but it shouldn’t just be an assertion about the fictional world. That seems more like setting or character development. A theme is applicable to the world outside the text as well. Regardless, it’s an excellent extension and exactly what this blog should look like. Keep up the great work!
