10/17/17- Samantha Russo

Today in class Mr. Rivers started off by welcoming us into class, reminded the class that our intertextuality essays are due on the 26th and he is available for any questions. In that essay we should, have a thesis that examines the adaptation of the text by analyzing the changes made from book to film, include topic sentences that establish specific relationships between the text and film, integrate evidence that supports your claims with significant and precise evidence,  and the analysis should focus on breaking down significant elements of written and visual text. He then went over our Wall-E assignment, making sure that everyone knew to they should have one topic, tone, and theme from day one of the movie, two for the second day, and two for the third day, we did not need on for today, making five total.  Then, we went into finishing the rest of Wall-E, and also wrapped up the topic, tone, and theme assignment which was due today. Once we completed all of that we went back into our table groups to evaluate the most significant theme that we came up with in our assignment, based on the audience/purpose, magnitude within the plot, and the impact of external elements. We ranked each of our own one through five, and shared our reasoning with the group. Then picked the top three themes that your group had, and made the top one into a paragraph on a class slideshow (can be found on the classroom), and will be continuing working on that in class tomorrow.
When writing an essay it is important to be able to analyze changes not just in an English class with text and a film, but also in life, whether it is a change in a person, in technology, or grades, and even change throughout a class. This is important to learn because as so many things are changing the skill is being able to adapt to the change or not. If you then are able to adapt, there becomes a higher probability of success.

  1. Really great details about the learning that happened in our class. Your information would be most helpful for a student who was absent. I like the way you keep things focused on what WE do and how things transition from whole class to group to individual learning. The extension is a START, but I want to see this go even further! Half of the assignment should be dedicated to extending our learning beyond just what we did in class.
