A new topic was introduced to us and that what connotation vs denotation. Connotation is the social understand of a word, and denotation is the dictionary definition of a word. We learned that tone is the speakers attitude and we learned about the scales of tone. Tone changes depending on audience it is either formal or casual, attitude changes tone making it negative or positive, and context changes tone making it sincere or ironic. We watched one scene from No Country For Old Men and one scene from The Office to further understand tone. Both scenes revolved around a coin flip, but were completely opposite. The class decided scene from NCFOM was anxious, tense, apprehensive, and superior. The scene from The Office was satirical. The differences about the scenes involved elements of mise en scene like character placement and dietetic audio.
