10/23/18 Daily blog- Vaughn Thomas

The class began with a paragraph that Mr. Rivers told us about in the beginning of class yesterday. We had to synthesize the tones that Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and Wall-E use regarding the future (Positive or negative) and were allowed to use "your notes, your text, the tone list, and anything else that belongs to you." We had 12 minutes to write the paragraph. After the assignment, we went back to google classroom and clicked on a link to sign up for turnitin.com. The codes for turnitin.com are:
Class ID: 19474783
Enrollment key: 123frodo.
After logging in we were instructed to post a practice essay to get used to the website and how to submit essays. What turnitin.com does is when you submit your paper, it compares the essay to text in its massive database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc.
After we submitted the practice essay post, we directed our attention to the back of the room to go over the different aspects of MLA format. It is often used by colleges and highschool so that different academic teachers and peers can understand the writing and properly cite it if they had to. The first aspect we went over was that you must put your last name and page number on the top right of each page. To do this you must:

  1. Press Insert on the top of the page
  2. Header and page number
  3. Page number
  4. Select the top left option

The next aspect is the work cited page. This page must be on its OWN PAGE and "Works cited" must be centered on the top of the page. All of your citations should be in alphabetical order and have an indent (tab) for the subsequent lines.
The next aspect is the header of the essay. The header should include in this order: Name(first and last), Teacher(s), class name, and the date that the paper is due. The header should look like the following:

Last name and page #
Student's name
Teacher's name(s)
Class name
Date (23 October 2018)

Your essay must also be in times new roman font, 12 font size, double spaced, and the header should be the same font and size as the whole paper.

We ended the class with Mr. Rivers mentioning that our intertextuality essays must address the theme of both the book and the movie. This assignment is due Thursday at 11:59 pm.

  1. Great information in here, Vaughn. MLA and TurnItIn certainly aren't the most exciting days to write about, but the information is clear, especially for students who might have missed class. Don't forget the extension! Part of your blog should connect our classroom learning to the world outside. Consider title and timing (they should be in by 10pm on the day of, but this was a bit later than that)
