Friday the 15th Blog
Hello, my fellow classmates. Today, when we first came into class, there was some business on the board. The business on the board told us about the blogs, and we were told to check our emails to check for our invitations to the blog. If you did not get an email from Blogger, you should email Mr. Rivers and let him know so that he can invite you. We were also reminded that the summer reading book chat is on Wednesday, and if anyone has questions about that then they should also talk to Mr. Rivers to get those answered. For those in Film As Literature, our college essays are due September 25th. Today, we only had one objective. The objective was to identify elements of mise-en-scene as a more specific way to analyze a film’s craft. As we dove into the lesson today, we learned about narrative and craft. An element of craft that we learned about was mise-en-scene, which deals with technical aspects of a film. An example of mise-en-scene in a film that I found was in the very beginning of the movie "IT". The element that I found was the lighting when the clown is in the sewer, because there is very little lighting, and you can only see part of his face. This makes him look very creepy and adds to the creates a spooky mood within the movie. After going over narrative and craft for a bit, we watched a video about mise-en-scene. The video was recorded by an Australian professor, and he had a lot of information for us. He went over the twelve elements of mise-en-scene. Some of these elements include character placement, diegetic audio, and many more. For anyone who was not here today, or just wants to rewatch the video, here is the link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PISrB3b77Uk. You can also find this link in the notes that Mr. Rivers posted. After the video ended, we were instructed to talk among our groups and analyze the mise-en-scene elements of a certain picture. That’s what we did today in class, and I hope you all have a great weekend. Dalton out.

Dalton,
ReplyDeleteGreat tone and lots of good information up here. Love the inclusion of the link and the very effective focus on our objectives and actions in class. Don't forget about the second part of the assignment: the extension! APPLY what we've learned in class to something that we DIDN'T talk about in class (even if it's just a specific movie) to extend your learning out into the world. Revise and I'll give you credit for the second half of the assignment.
