Becca Brancato- 11/2/17

Hello everyone! Today is day two of Get Out. If you haven’t caught up yet, you definitely should.      However, if you haven’t, here’s a summary of what happened.
We are starting at the beginning of the hypnosis scene today. Chris has a flashback to the day his mother died. He sees exactly what he was doing that day. He begins to get anxious, and he begins to cry. He feels as if he can’t move. The mother makes him “sink into the floor” which consists of him slowly falling into nothing but darkness. He sees the mother on what almost looks like a TV screen. She closes his eyes, he wakes up and sees it as only a dream. Or was it? Regardless, he wakes up horrified, looks over, and his phone is unplugged (this will come into play later). Chris goes outside to take pictures, and goes to snap a picture of Georgina. She quickly looks at him and he gets frightened. Chris then goes to see Walter, the gardener. He is just as robotic in his dialogue and movements as Georgia is. Chris talks to Rose about the hypnosis and how uneasy he feels. He also asks Rose about Walter, and what his “deal” is. This is when the family starts to show up.
Chris has to meet all of Rose’s family members, and he is the only African American there. Each of these family members tries too hard, just as Rose’s parents did, to make him comfortable. Plenty of things are said to Chris in a racist way, which makes Chris even less comfortable. Chris meets Logan, another African American man. He too is just as robotic in his dialogue and movements as Walter and Georgina are. Chris begins to recognize a pattern. The scene changes and Chris meets a blind man who claims to love Chris’ photography. The scene once again changs. Chris walks upstairs, and we see everyone in the house go completely silent. They all look up all the ceiling, as if they’re looking at him. Chris doesn’t notice this, but what he does notice is that his phone was unplugged again. He realizes that Georgina is the one unplugging his phone. Chris is completely freaked out, so he calls his friend. He tells him about all of the weird things that have happened, and his friend warns him in a funny way. Georgina interrupts, and she apologizes for unplugging his phone. She claims that she was “wiping the table off” and his “cellular phone unplugged.” Chris says that he didn’t mean to snitch and she had no idea what snitch meant. She is completely creepy, and slowly gets closer to him. Chris is completely creeped out, and so is the audience.
Chris walks outside and is greeted by a huge group of people. He is asked by the group if it is an advantage or disadvantage. Chris asks Logan to answer, and as he is answering, Chris snaps a picture of Logan. Logan completely freezes, his nose starts to bleed, and he attacks Chris while screaming “get out.” He claims that it was the flash that set him off, but Chris thinks that it’s something more. He talks to Rose, he says that he feels like he knows Logan. Not Logan exactly, but whatever attacked him in Logan’s body. It flashes back and forth between the party and the conversation between Rose and Chris. At the party, they’re playing bingo, but they have Chris’ picture up. It seems like they are literally auctioning Chris off, but the audience isn’t aware why. The blind man that complimented Chris before ends up winning. It flashes back to Chris saying that he wants to leave, he feels way too uncomfortable. And honestly, I can’t blame him. I give him major props for lasting that long.
Chris tries to convince Rose to leave with him, he truly believes that they are in trouble. They agree to leave, and Chris is relieved. When they return to the house, the family is all leaving. Rose’s brother is playing a creepy song on the ukelele, and the camera scans by Walter, Georgina, the mom, and dad all smiling widely at him. The scene changes, and Chris sends the picture to his friend. Chris realizes that it is someone that he knows. This freaks Chris out even more, and he rushes to leave as soon as possible. The person he knows, or used to know, is completely different. We ended at a shot of an open closet with creepy music in the background. A great cliffhanger! Hopefully you’ll be able to watch the movie, since this doesn’t do it justice. But this is what I have for you!

  1. Lots of valuable information here about our film, but don’t forget the second half of this assignment: where is the extension? How does this translate to the world outside of our specific classroom? Especially since you are able to discover SO MUCH information about what we watched in class, you should be able to keep pushing some component of this to the world beyond our room.
