Hello class,
Today we watched the second part of Get Out and there was some very odd things going in the movie today regarding the seperarion of race. We start off with Chris getting hypnotized by Rose's mom. She makes Chris tell her how her mom died and Chris starts regretting what he didn't do to save her. He begins to cry and in his mind he feels as if he is falling into a hole. He continues to fall but then the movie cuts to Chris waking up as if it was a dream. The next day he is talking to Rose in their room and he admits that the hypnosis worked as cigarettes now seem gross to him. Later, the family party happens and everybody there is white besides Chris and one other strange black man. Chris goes up to the black man thinking he is a "brother" but soon finds out that he is just like the white people. Chris is shocked and when he was speaking Chris went to snap a picture of the man but his flash was on. It gave the man a bloody nose and he went berserk. He screamed to Chris "GET OUT" as if to tell him "don't end up like me, get out while you still can." Chris is introduced to another white male who asks him if he plays golf. Chris said he did one time but he wasn't too good at it and the man tells him that he met Tiger Woods and it was incredible. There was really nothing to make of this other than the fact that Tiger and Chris are both black. Next, Chris and Rose go on a wall because Chris is freaked out by these events. They decide that it would be best if they both leave together because Chris is very uncomfortable in this white environment. While they are gone Rose's dad holds a bingo session to auction off Chris. They come back and everyone says their goodbyes and they go to bed. Chris is laying in bed and he realizes the basement door is open. He goes to open the door and peek down and right then is where Mr.Rivers stopped the movie for the day. We will finish Get Oit tomorrow in class. Also, our Ready Player One reading and assignment on google classroom is due tomorrow at midnight.
Nice details about the information of this part of the film. The ending is strong too as you mention those details about RPO and tomorrow’s class plans. This assignment is, however, missing an extension! How can you push the learning out into the real world? What about the film gives you some sense of how the world is part of our learning (and vice versa)? That should be 50% of the blog post!
