November 2nd, 2017 Period 3 Tori Flynn

Today in class Mr. Rivers reminded us that Ready Player One, pages 27-77 are due tomorrow 11/3/17 along with assignment #8 posted on classroom. He also reminded us that each day we watch the  film we have to select a specific microaggression that Chris experiences in the film and talk how it builds an audience's empathy towards him as a character. These responses should be only one-two sentences/day. In the film today we get to see many more microaggressions than the first day of the movie. The movie picks up from after Chris comes inside after failing to attempt to smoke a cigarette. Rose’s mother stops him and invites him to come in and sit with her for a little. She starts to stir her tea and slowly starts asking Chris about smoking. She gives him a pep talk about smoking, but she quickly turns into asking  about his mother’s death. The audience clearly sees she is attempting to hypnotize him. She claims this hypnosis will get him to stop smoking. She asks him to describe where he was the day of his mother’s death. He starts to hears pouring rain just like the day his mother died. He begins to dig deeper into what happened the day of his mom’s death. E becomes She then says “Now sink into the floor”. And he falls in a deep back hole until he wakes up in a panic the next morning. The following day is Rose’s family’s huge party. Chris is obviously a little nervous because he knows he is going to be singled out and surrounded by a whole bunch of white people. As the party goes on we saw a whole bunch of microaggressions. In the middle of the party Chris spots Logan King the only other black person beside Georgina and Walt.  Chris goes up to him thinking he is a "brother" but soon finds out that he is just like the white people. He finds the way Logan acts is almost as if he is in a trance. He doesn’t act normal and he has very different mannerisms from Chris. Later in the scene Chris take a picture with flash to Logan and it makes him go crazy. He gets nosebleed yells GET OUT to Chris and attacks him. After this incident Chris feels like he knows Logan and he has seen him before. Rose’s mother with a bunch of other people take Logan into the same room where the mother hypnotized Chris and shuts the door. They come out minutes later and Logan is back to his “old self” and apologies to Chris. Chris no knows something is up. Later in the day Chris calls his friend and sends him a picture of Logan and his friend recognizes him and right before his friend tells Chris who the Logan is that is where we stopped watching today.

  1. Late. Also missing the extension. Lots of really strong depictions of the film and information about what you saw/learned in class (love the quotes, of course), but don’t forget the extension! That’s the part of the assignment that justifies our learning and makes what we do in the classroom matter beyond our four walls! How can you find something that you’ve observed in the first half of this post (what you’ve already written) and reach into the world? That should be 50% of the actual blog post!
