Period 3
On Friday the 4th, our class finished watching the Movie “Get Out” we discovered that our class finished watching the Movie “Get Out” we discovered that the white community kidnaps black people so that they can live vicariously through them. Chris manages to escape but not unscathed. He was stabbed with a letter opener through the hand by the hypnotist. In the end, Chris has to choose between killing his girlfriend or letting her live, He decided to let her live as his friend finally finds him and takes him home.
This film represents how minorities may feel that white treat them on a daily basis.
For the past few days, we had to "Select a specific microaggression that Chris experiences in the film. How does that build an audience's empathy toward him as a character? Your response should be ONLY one-two sentences/day."
Listed below are the notes that I have been writing while watching the film:
Notes:
Get Out: For each day of a film:
10/31:
When the officer was recording the events of what happened on the road, the officer asked to see Chris’s ID even though he wasn’t driving. The audience feels empathy towards him because he was mistreated in that situation.
11/02:
When speaking with the party guest, they all seem to take on all the racial stereotypes this makes the audience see how present these types of conversation happen in real life.
11/03 :
Chris is held captive by his girlfriend and her family because of his athletic and physical advantages. Empathy towards Chris forms from the fact they want to change the captured into a more white based persona.
The people in the community want to take over and basically live through their selected victim.
In the end despite all the abuse and torment, Chris fought and escaped.
