Be Reel: Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation starring Amy Poehler goes from okay to straight up bad real quick but I still got a good amount of enjoyment out of it. The whole show is about the parks department in a small town in Indiana and the absurd things they do. I started watching it after I finished the Office. I felt sad that my favorite show was over so I latched onto this sub par show with similar filming styles but not the same heart. It is relatively well written and there is some clever humor but the best played characters are easily Andy and April. Their relationship is well written and very funny and you really don't know what is going to happen between them. The main character Leslie became extremely annoying to me by the end of the show as did most characters in the show. It seems as if they have no character development throughout the show and everyone remains the same or stagnant. I enjoyed watching the show in the early seasons but the lack of change caused me to not like this and I feel like writing a show with no character development so i would give this show in general Bad Bad. If we were only talking about the early seasons I could probably say Good Good but it really got old. Another factor for me was how annoying Leslie’s voice gets by the time you're on the last season and how annoying all of the little things she does are to me. I honestly think if she was removed from the show I would have enjoyed it more because many of the other characters are great. Anne’s character in the show was also quite terrible and annoyed me quite a bit but not as much as Leslie. Here is an example of her being annoying by saying she is not annoying.

  1. I think I would have to agree with most of what your saying in this post. I found this show pretty humorous as well, as I tend to enjoy that type of subtle and sarcastic humor. I can agree that Leslie annoyed me a bit throughout the series, but I really didn't focus on it too much and it wasn't very noticeable to me. I do think that she added a lot to the series, as I found her acting style to be pretty perfect for this type of show, despite some of her irritating habits. I also thought the plot line was quite boring and could get very old and uninteresting to me at times.
Andy and April were definitely the best characters in the show for me as well. They were the ones I always looked forward to seeing in every episode and finding out what they'd be up to because, like you said, they are totally unpredictable and absurd at times. They made the show worth watching for me. The Office and Parks and Recreation are visibly similar shows, with their resemblance in acting style, humor, and camera cuts, but I would have to say that The Office definitely did it better and was ultimately a more enjoyable show. There is nothing bad objectively I necessarily have to say about Parks and Rec, it primarily has to do with my enjoyment of the show and personal preferences, especially when compared to shows of similar style.
