APA and MLA Citing
Today in class Mr. Rivers gave our class a lecture on how to cite evidence in our literature reviews, whether it was MLA or APA. Mr. Rivers began his essay explaining the basics of MLA and APA writing, he explained that a MLA piece of work would have an audience of English, Philosophy, Religion, and History. While an APA piece of work would have an audience of any other subject of work. Mr. Rivers then showed us the proper way to write a MLA Heading and Title. To write the header correctly you must start with the Author’s name, followed by the teacher’s name, the course title, and finally the date (# Month Year). An APA header would be formatted by having the title, then the authors name, and the academic institution. After this we went over how long each section of our senior papers should be. Our literature review should have 500-750 words, and our synthesis paper should have 1200-2000 words. We then went on to discuss citing in our essays and how they should be formatted. In a MLA style essay you should cite by writing (Last Name, Page Number). In an APA style essay you should cite by writing (Last Name, Year, Page Number), We then went on to work independently on our literature review which are due Tuesday night at midnight.
