Mr. Rivers started the class by talking about our research paper and the research we are conducting in class. We did not take any notes today but he told us that we should use the excellent senior paper links to help us start the paper and have an idea of how to organize and properly use MLA. Another reason to use the sample papers is to see how the papers that got an A or above wrote while still implementing the sources. He also told us to use different the different databases to make your paper better and more professional. Many people in class are in different stages of the paper, and some are still trying to figure out a topic. If you are, I recommend going through Netflix and find a movie or show that you have a large interest in and then find the themes and meaning of the film. We start by writing the literature review, which should include:
1. Introduce major speakers/topics/events
2. Distill current state of conversation
3. Call for research
On Friday, we took notes relating to how cinema relates to the conversation:
Is research responding to cinema choice and/or is cinema choice responding to research?
Which films/characters/plot-points/themes/metaphors/allegories/episodes/seasons will this paper investigate?
We also created a folder in your google drive to stay organized and make PDFs of all articles, and also make a Scratchpad Doc, a Literature Review Drafting Doc, and a Synthesis Paper Drafting Doc.
See Mr. Rivers during lunch or email him for any questions or concerns for the senior paper.
