Today during class, Mr. Rivers had reminded us on how our Be Reel blogs are now 50pts and we need at least one done before the new year. The rest of our period consisted of the discussion of the new Net neutrality.
we looked at the connection between purpose, tone and audience. We specifically looked at a real life situation of the new Net Neutrality proposition. The FCC had created a video on 7 things you can still do on the internet. The Chairman’s purpose of the video is to connect with “The Youth” by referencing instagram, memes (the harlem Shake), and toys that are presently used. His overall tone was more condescending more than relatable. It felt like he was making fun of the intended audience. Another purpose was to discredit the former administration. With the intent to hide the truth, teens and adults will probably having to pay for instagram or snapchat and to go on a website now. This is a manipulative video that tries to convince millennials they are not gonna pay when in reality they will have too.
After further analysis, the class had made a connection to Ready Player One as Obama is Wade and the Oasis is the FCC. It is also known that big business companies will block, slow the loading down or make you pay to go on a small business website and this will ultimately hurt those small businesses.
After this discussion, It really made me think about my rights as an individual and how the corrupt a few individuals in the government could be. There are many things as citizens we can do to change how our government votes. Alabama made history by voting for a Democrat in their senate seat for the first time in 25 years. There are little things we can do that could make a big change.
