Class blog: 12-19-17
Today was a 4 and Mr rivers stared off the class talking about reminders. The revised essay is due tonight at 11:59. That you need to have both essays with the revised essay on top of the old. Remember to highlight the rubric and not the essay. 50% of the essay is on content, 20% on the organization, and 25% on your own voice and style. After the severe talk, he added on with a big happy birthday too to the lord of the rings: The fellowship of the ring (December 19,2001). Then the class went into the realm of figurative language. The goal of the class is to be able to analyze allegories through analysis of symbolic actions, characters, and objects and also to interpret tone in figurative language to discover theme. Then group work was about to start on defining allegories and figurative language when the fire alarm went off, and priceless memories were made when Mr. Rivers yelled than said: “ **** this, I would rather die in a fire” and threw his mark on his desk. When the class regained focus, we answered the questions. An allegory is within any text/ or medium. It holds hidden meanings with multiple symbols. An example is an animal farm. Figurative language is Implied. It's symbolic or abstract but mostly imagery. Examples are personifications and Metaphors. Figurative language is the literal representing the abstract. Whereas literal language is the Explicit meaning. Bringing this to the outside world but still in the lesson is the movie X-Men. It is famous for allegories where it provides commentary/critique on the outside world through thematic assertions and complications. Filmed during Civil rights movement with Malcolm X Martin Luther King. The intended Audience is the Children. X-Men created an allegory to get people to relate, entertain, but most of all persuade. Another connection to the real world is chess with d’ Angelo. Where it explains the Literal and Figurative parts of the chess pieces. With questions to answer like How does character tone differ?Or What does text assert, question, or complicate? A Pawn is a lower level drug dealer. Pawns are expendable, and so are drug dealers. A pawn can be queens and dealers want to get near the top. The next piece is the King relating to the leader of the gang. King doesn't have to protect himself. He has others to do his dirty work.
