Justin Rhodes Daily Blog - Dec. 5th 2017

Hello class, today we started off the class with taking out our Chromebooks and going over the in-class writing assignment in more detail. The in-class writing will be on  Wednesday, December 13th and you will have forty-two minutes to complete the given task, whether you choose option A or option B. Note that this assignment can be found on the classroom page, explaining it in further detail. After finishing the discussion on the assignment, we then switched over to the projector where we watched Back to the Future for the remainder of class. Throughout the movie, taking notes was advised as the essay will involve arguing for or against the idea of the three act structure in Ready: Player One, and Back to the Future. Important things to take notes on are things such as plot advancements, character names, as well as key events or moments. Personally, I think the three act structure is interesting, and applicable to many movies I've watched. I never even realized it existed until I learned about it in class, and it changes how I think about movies when watching. For example, after learning about the three act structure many of the Fast & Furious movies fall into this three act structure. Despite this, they still top the charts, and I find them very enjoyable to watch. While some may think the plot to be repetitive, I think it constantly develops movie after movie using the three act structure. Characters changing, locations changing, all over the course of the movie series. I would recommend the Fast & Furious movies to anyone who enjoys action movies, as well as Vin Diesel himself. Hopefully you enjoy watching Back to the Future while catching up.

  1. Really strong details about what we learned in class yesterday, and you’ve got a nice sense of what students should be looking for as we examine this film. Make sure your paragraphs divide this learning into more manageable pieces so we can follow along. I think the Fast and the Furious connection is great, but it would have been more substantial had it had its own paragraph to build from.
