03/07/2019 Daily Blog

Today, we started off by Mr. Rivers reminding us that we have the PodBlog due tonight as well as the podcast tomorrow (03/08).

Today's class mostly focused on the politics as the topic of SATIRE is inherently political. We looked at some qualities that fit into Liberals and qualities that fit into Conservatives. It looked as follows:

Liberal (Dem)- Pro-choice- Progressive -> CHANGE- Pro-drug reform- Equal rights for women- Anti-death penalty- Gun laws/restriction- Government solves problems

Conservatives (Rep)- Hands off the economy- Capitalist: Free market- Less concerned about wage gap- Big business -> $- Strict interpretation of Constitution- Personal Accountability
We continued by looking at a Saturday Night Life sketch. The clip makes a mockery of the Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton 2016 debate. Alec Baldwin gives an unforgettable performance of a very exaggerated side of Donald Trump. Donald Trump, with his obvious racist jokes, comes off ignorant and, well, racist. On one bit, knowing well that wasn't his name, he calls the black man Denzel, clearly discriminating the man and the black community, saying that if you're black you are automatically associated with Denzel Washington.  On the other hand, Kate Mckinnon impersonates the once thought-to-be President Hillary Clinton. Hillary gives the impression of a kiss ass to the public, a person who will do whatever possible to be on the good side of the people, no matter what. Although both candidates are trashed and made fun of, the overall sketch hints at Trump being the inferior candidate.
The whole purpose of why Mr. Rivers showed us this funny and original clip  to present how Satire is used to make fool of on-going government problems. To expose these both candidates and to come to conclusion that Hillary and Trump were simply horrible candidates for the 2016 election. As stated before, the sketch seemed to leaned more toward Hillary's side but that just explains how satire can also be flawed.
We ended the day there but will pick it up from there tomorrow (03/08/2019). Remember to do the PodBlog tonight and to watch your movie for tomorrow!
