Daily Blog (March 5, 2019)

Today was a light-work kind of day. Mr. Rivers began class by assigning the students a new assignment on google classroom titled "Podcast 2 Reflection". Students were told to listen to their own podcast and type their "stream of consciousness". When writing the reflection, students were instructed to "reflect with an evaluative tone."

The stream of consciousness should be your evaluation of your podcast. What did you think about your podcast, what did you do that you did not like or did like. What can you do to strengthen your future podcasts. For example, in my reflection of my group's podcast (Dummo and Rice) i said we should have positioned ourselves in a quieter environment because throughout the podcast their was constant door noises.

The "Podcast 2 reflection" assignment was due at the end of class today.

We were also instructed to listen to one other podcasts of our choosing (you can't choose your own podcast and the podcast you choose must be the most recent episode from that group) and post our opinions and critical feedback to the class blog. Please give criticism that is positive, don't just say "your podcast sucks" or "your podcast is good". If the podcast you listen to is bad, explain why you think it is bad and what that group/ or specific individual can do to improve their next week's podcast. This assignment will be due Thursday of this week (3/7/2019).

After discussing the objectives and completing the Podcast 2 reflection, we discussed the difference between something that is ironic vs something that is sincere. We first broke off into our groups for 5 minutes than came together as a class and discussed our responses. From the class discussion, we were able to determine what "Irony" and "Sincere" means.

When something is ironic it means that "something is happening in the opposite way to what is expected, and it typically causes amusement/humor." We defined "sincere" as something that is "free from pretense or deceit; proceeding from genuine feelings."

We than watched and analyzed the dodge ball scene from the movie Bill Madison. We discussed if the scene was ironic or sincere. (Link to the scene: https://youtu.be/1KSHWEVRBdQ). The students had mixed feelings about the scene, some said it was ironic because it was unrealistic to see a grown man hurt kids at a school playground. Some said it was sincere because Adam Sandler looks like he genuinely finds enjoyment from chucking dodge balls at kids. His laughter, happiness, competitive emotions was all genuine and sincere.

This basically sums up what we did in class on March 5, 2019.
Also please (if you have not already done so) check to see if you posted a "shareable link" to your pre-production document on classroom.
