Everything Nice With Dummo and Rice

Today I had the opportunity to listen to Dummo and Rice's second podcast called "An Instant Classic: Step Brothers" a review of the film Step Brothers.  This podcast featured two of their three regular speakers, Jerry and Ben. They began with a catchy intro and then dove right into their content by shedding some light on their opinions on the film and what their favorite parts were. This was a great opportunity for them to build up their pathos and sure enough they did. Whilst doing so, they mentioned their observations on the characters regarding their development throughout the film and contribution to the plot. Next, Ben and Jerry introduced the 3 theories of humor into their podcast (Incongruity, Relief, Superiority). Their decision to take a more academic angle on their podcast was a great way to increase their credibility. Furthermore, Ben and Jerry did a good job making it clear what the individual theories meant but fell a little short in terms of examples for the incongruity theory. The theories of humor were followed by a quick period of self reflection where Ben and Jerry talked about how they thought the movie could be improved which was a nice change of pace from the more scholastic tone they had previously established. Ben and Jerry then began to tie things up by giving the movie their own rating based off their opinions which was a good idea but then got back into discussing the "meat" of the movie again which made the podcast seem a bit unorganized. Finally, their podcast ended with an outro that could've used some work; a catch phrase or silly quote would have sufficed. Regardless, this podcast was really well spoken, had a great tone and feel throughout the entire thing and was really a pleasure to listen to.
