101 Dalmatian Pelts on the Wall

I went and listened to the second episode of the 90's Reasons Why podcast, featuring the original 101 Dalmatians movie. The podcast episode starts off by talking about what this movie does differently than current Disney animated movies. The antagonist of 101 Dalmatians Cruella De ville, intended to skin all the dalmatians, and take all their pelts, Disney today could not get away with immoral elements in their movies without having to bump up the age rate. This podcast members do a great job of bouncing ideas and thoughts off one another. Anya relates the villain to Ursula from the Little Mermaid, and Hunter compares her unique design to a bright red car that stands out among the rest. I like how they relate the movies themes and tones to real life, like the ideas of animal abuse, not just regarding Cruella De Ville, but the idea of a family in real life having 101 dogs. No single family could possibly be able to fully care for that many dogs, because having that many animals is too much for one family to handle, and in real life no one in the fur industry is interested in skinning dogs and selling their pelts to the public. They do great at evaluating, but I think they stray away from the movie because the pod-casters either spend too much time comparing one element to real life, or spend too much time talking about one subject, like the villain. Other than that, this episode was really solid, it followed schedule and provided an interesting conversation on the themes and elements that make up the original 101 Dalmatians.
