2/5/19- Conventions besides Comic-Con, but just as nerdy

Today in class we began discussing multiple genres in film and text, and about conventions. Conventions are norms, or patterns, that can be used to bridge texts together. We also began discussing how movies or texts can fall outside of the norm. We then began to discuss our podcasts that we are going to be creating. We are going to be analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing four different films, two of which are new to us. We will have to connect films that fall under a similar flag, such as by genre, artist, or other connecting medium. We are going to be working in groups of 1 to 5 people, and will be recording 4 podcasts on listed dated, which are 2/15, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8. We were given a list of things we have to hit in our podcasts, as well as a list of previous podcasts by older students, and analyzed how they connected their films. We then discussed the Speaking and Listening goals, and did a group activity where we discussed the episode of Atlanta using one of the given Speaking and Listening goals. We then typed our goal and an analysis of our conversation on Classroom. We are going to be deciding how to set up our podcasts soon, and we can talk with Mr. Rivers about our ideas and get approval.
We can apply this concept of discussion and conventions to the real world by analyzing patterns not only in text and film but in society. This will allow us to work on building an idea of how to act, speak, and interact with others. This can give us an advantage because being in control of your behavior allows you to make yourself seem more knowledgeable and in charge in situations.
