DLB - 2/14/19

We started out the class with a reminder that the podcast slides are due on the 15th. We were also reminded that the podcast recordings start a week from this Friday. Mr. Rivers then explained the activity for the day. For valentines day we would be choosing our favorite comedy movie and having a 5-minute mock podcast about the movie. We had 2 minutes to write down some topics about our favorite comedy and our favorite aspects of it. We then had 3 minutes to organize our points of discussion with our group and organize a rough idea of how the mock podcast would be organized. After the three minutes, we would have 5 minutes to participate in the mock podcast with our group. I chose the movie Deadpool for the podcast. My favorite aspects of the movie were how meta it was. I also discussed how the movie used the three different humor theories. We then discussed what we did well in the podcast and what needed work.

We then made a list of things that we can do during a podcast to prevent dead air. The list we created included; Admiring favorite themes, Analyze choices, Applying humor theory/classwork, Evaluating lines, Comparing casting.

We then watched a scene of la la land and analyzed how the scene played into certain romance film tropes and how it was different. One way it separated itself from other romance films was its self-awareness of romance tropes and the fact that the two characters did not kiss at the end of the scene. But because it is a romance it did follow certain stereotypes of a romance such as the main characters having chemistry, the characters not instantly accepting each other, and the two characters both ending up liking each other by the end of the scene.
