Today in class we continued to do our research for our senior paper. Something that I found to be interesting while researching was that my non academic article actually had more sources than the first academic one I got. This is because I used ABC - CLIO which is nowhere near as good as Gale and Ebsco. CQ Researcher is also not a very good research source because they have no sources. I found that for my topic of the Syrian Civil War Ebsco was pretty easy to use and I found many good peer reviewed journals on there.
Personally, I struggled to really settle down on one topic because there is so much stuff that I was interested in and I feel like many people faced that problem. There are so many awesome topics out there to research, to learn and hopefully teach others about. What helped me settle down on an idea is I stopped thing how hard is this gonna be to write and I just thought what would I enjoy the most and what does the average person know the least about. I feel if you choose a topic you really feel passionate about or are really interested and want to learn about it will be enjoyable to write even if its hard compared to writing an easy essay on something you hate.
Since I chose the Syrian Civil War as my topic I decided to relate it to the movie District 9. The aliens in that movie are just like Syrian refugees in the real world because they are treated very poorly and living in extreme poverty. The aliens don't want to be there just as much as the humans don't want them there and they are taken advantage of and looked down on. It is exactly the way people treat the Syrian refugees who are trying to escape the violent turmoil occurring in there country.
When putting links into you're tables from the databases make sure that you download the article or journal to your drive and then permalink it in because a normal link will most likely not work. This is important so you can go back and get all the information from your sources.
