Daily Log Blog - 1/8/18
In class today we continued working on our Literary Review Preparation. Since we already had our non-academic article because it was due today we began to find our 2 academic articles from databases that Mr. Rivers posted on classroom and fill in the columns on the same table that the non-academic article is. He recommended the databases EBSCO and Gale, but he said we can use any database we would like. The academic article's link will not be enough when getting the source, however. We need to download the pdf of the article or get the permalink because the link for the articles will not work but the pdf and permalink will. With the academic articles he wants us to take our topic that we are writing about for our senior paper and start to narrow it down to a more specific topic. We will continue working on finding academic articles and filling up the table on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the whole Literary Review Preparation is due Wednesday. He also told us about an assignment that will not be graded where we look up a music video, a trailer, and any scene from a recent film or show that you have seen to see if the YouTube filter will block them or not and then send the results to him through the classroom assignment. This can only be done in class, however, because we are trying to improve the school's YouTube filter and you can't do that at home. An extension that extends what we learned today to the world at large is looking for these academic articles on papers in the future, notably college papers because they are more sophisticated than high school essays and probably need reliable sources.
