Be-Reel Krampus 1/14/18
Krampus is a movie made in 2015 by director Michael Dougherty. It was based on the Austrian Christmas legend, Krampus. This is a creature that is Santa Claus's companion and comes out during Christmas to punish the bad kids, while Santa Claus gives gifts to the good children. In real life, it is tradition in Germany and Austria to dress up as these monsters to scare kids, and remind them to be good. In the movie, this tradition is turned into a scary and thrilling horror movie. The movie clearly helped make the tale scarier than ever by using lots of different special effects, like monsters eating the children and kids being thrown in what looks like to be hell itself. What I did notice was the huge amount of CGI in the making of the evil gingerbread men. It was done really well with no flaws in the design. I also noticed that there were several different types of props used in the film, like evil toys and clown centipedes. Also, the suspense in the movie proved to be a very huge factor in becoming an effective horror movie. Overall, this movie allowed to be an effective tale of the story of Krampus. The many tales of Krampus show why the kids fear him and why this is a scary movie. It also shows lots if key factors in it as well, such as good lighting, mostly for the snowmen and the elves, dark scenes, and lighter lighting for the happy scenes. Also, Music plays a key role in the movie as well. For example, the music changes when something bad is about to happen or a twist in the story and when the family is together and happy.
