Daily Blog 1/9/18

Today in class Mr. Rivers went over the basics of our senior paper that we are in the process of gaining research information for. He also reminded us that our topic of research should be final by now, but if the topic really needs to be changed then the assignment still has to be done by 11:59 Wednesday. He also mentioned that if you are stuck and having a hard time picking a topic, think of something that you have researched before because you will have some background knowledge but don't forget to keep a sense of discovery. The focus of the class today was to search for academic articles on our topic of research, this is also what we will be focusing on tomorrow too. Therefore Mr. Rivers went over some reminders for us when researching for our academic articles. He told us that once we find something to download the Pdf or get the link to the full text because once it is lost it is very difficult to find again and it also wastes time. He also noted that we should make sure that they are academic/peer-reviewed sources and that we should also start with the abstract. The articles should only be as old as something from 2014, with some exceptions, and that the best databases for us to start with are EBSCO and GALE. You will be able to find all the information to access the databases on the classroom page under "senior paper". The research that we have been doing in class is going to help us with our senior paper, but also with research that will be done in the future because it is getting us comfortable with the uses of databases and teaching us how much we can refine a topic.
