Class blog 1/8/18
In today's class, January 8th, 2018, we began to further discuss the premise of our senior paper, and continued working on our literature review preparation. We were supposed to have our non-academic article picked out and evaluated in our charts by today. In class, we began working on our academic articles that are pertaining to the same topic that your non-academic article is about. For example, if I chose an article last week on the issue of diversity, I would have to find two more, academic articles that also referred to this issue, also keeping in mind that I have to relate this topic to a film in some way. Mr. Rivers went over some reminders for when we’re researching for our academic articles. He told us to make sure our article are academic articles/peer reviewed sources and we must start with the abstract. Also we should make sure our articles are somewhat recent, dating from 2014 to the present date, and we must make sure that instead of just copying the links to our article we should save the articles as PDFs or as a permalink, since sometimes just copying a link will not get you directly back to your article, along with collecting citations, although most articles will already include them. Under the Senior Paper research resources post on google classroom, he also included the resources needed to effectively research our academic articles. The database access document includes the usernames and passwords required to access multiple databases. The MRC databases document has the links to the multiple databases that can aid in the search for academic articles. The database guide is there to inform us on what kinds of articles we can find in each database. We were given the class today to begin looking through these resources for articles that effectively relate to our chosen topics. We will continue working on this project in class on Tuesday and Wednesday and the project itself will be due Wednesday evening. Mr. Rivers also included a quick survey on google classroom to see what content Youtube allows us to view with the filters placed on it by the school.
