47 meters down

Yesterday night, I watched the 2017 drama 47 meters down on Netflix. This movie revolves around two sisters, Lisa and Kate and their adventures in Mexico. One sister, Lisa was skeptical and needed plenty of persuasion to join her sister Lisa into shark infested waters. Safely in their diving  cage, they observe the majestic creatures at peace until their worst nightmare happens… the cable holding them up snapped. This then gives the movie the title, 47 meters down. As soon as I watched the trailer, it reminded me of the 1975 thriller Jaws. Both movies are thrillers and of course the main problem in the movie is sharks trying to eat people. In the beginning minutes of the film i got a sense that the sisters probably weren't  the brightest bulbs on the tree. They got onto this sketchy guys boat and rode it out to deeper waters. The whole boat was full of rust,  looked really old,  looked like it was barely floating.  The cage that the girls went into were once again, FULL of rust and the cable holding it was already unraveling. It made me so frustrated with the characters because what person in their right mind would go into a cage that looks like that, and  look at sharks in it ! Once the cable broke, the girls had to try their best to preserve their oxygen while trying to fight off the sharks coming around the cage.  Without saying any major spoilers, throughout the whole time in the water the girls faced MANY MANY challenges. In the end, I was sort of disappointed with the outcome. I felt the movie dragged out with similar problems every time and didn’t really set up that much tension. Everytime one of them left the cage, it was almost bound to happen that a shark was going to come after them. One thing the director, Johannes Roberts, did well was set the mood for the film, creating a dark lighting to go along with the horror aspect of it. I was expecting it to be a bit more scary than it was but overall it gave me one or two good scares. I would rate this film as Good Bad  because the overall thriller was ok but it dragged out a bit too much.
