Previously I was watching the fifth and final season of Ghost Whisperer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, and somewhat abruptly, Netflix removed the show while I had five episodes left to finishing- so I wanted to watch something new with J. Love in it, because at this point I had grown fond of her gigantic fake eyelashes that make her look like shes confused AND sad at the same time no matter what emotion shes portraying- so I started The Client List (about two nights ago).
The Client List is a Lifetime series about a girl named Riley Parks who starts working at a day spa called Sugar Land, after her husband leaves her and her two kids to fend for themselves. Both her and her husband were out of jobs for a little under a year, so they put themselves in a bit of debt- and the bank is really hounding on her to get her payments in soon, or she could lose everything. She realizes the urgency of her situation, so in need of more money she goes to her boss, Georgia. She tells Riley that some of the other girls who work at the spa give "extras" and that's one way she could make more money. (Clearly she chooses to make more coin-) Coming from a small, conservative town, Riley has to choose if shes willing to take the risk of people finding out what she does for a living.
Currently I'm only about seven episodes in to the show, but it's super interesting to hear from the woman's point of view how it is to have a job like this. Her friends and family constantly remind her that what she's doing is illegal, but more than that they tell her it's wrong and disgusting for her to be doing it (Not really a topic I care hard about but, let people do what they want if it makes them happy, and aren't hurting others)-which is what I'm referring to as interesting. This show aired in 2012, and I think today this is still a "stir-the-pot" kind of question, when it really doesn't need to be.
Subjectively and objectively I enjoy this show, so it would fall under the good-good category for myself personally. The show is over the top, like any Lifetime show is. Riley is surrounded by an estimate five to ten NEW shirtless men clones who all have bad 2008 Justin Bieber bowl cuts each episode-and that's just at her job, not to mention in her personal life. J. Love's character has not had any progression whatsoever, even though her life is kind of falling apart- but that's just J. Love- actress extraordinaire.
New problems arise out of nowhere to make the show keep rolling, even though the main problem within the show- (Riley needing to figure out what happened to her husband: where did he go? what has been going on with him? etc) could really be solved within the first three episodes, but I can't wait to find out what else could possibly happen to this character in the two seasons worth of episodes I have yet to watch.
