BRB: Fantasy Buddy Cop Movie

The movie that was viewed was called Bright. Bright was a movie in a slight different present in which there is more than 1 race. Instead of there only being humans, there are orcs, elves, and fairies as well. Elves are the highest of the hierarchy (Top 1%) coming down to humans, then orcs, then fairies. With Orcs being the most hated race in the world, everybody including children discriminate against them. The movie centers around detective cop Ward and his partner Orc, Jakoby. Jakoby was an Orc cop who had already made the mistake of letting his human companion, Ward get shot by an Orc and let him escape. The action really starts to kick off after they receive a call about a man who was swinging a clay-more in the middle of the street. After taking him into custody they then get another call about disturbance near a gang occupied area. After finding the area and scouting it out, they found that someone was using magic because the way that people were dying in the complex and the amount of weaponry there was concerning. However, they found an elf who was a bright, meaning she could use the "wand", Ward, and Jakoby's crazy adventure had just started there. This movie was rated pretty badly by rotten tomatoes. However, the movie does have really good aspects to it, the action is jammed packed, also it's really well made. The environment feels very real and the characters in the movie instantly pull people in as well as very detailed character development throughout the action packed movie. In one scene Ward and Jakoby were both in a shoot-out against a gang member who was trying to guard their safe-hold. The loose shot framing, low key lighting key, as well as the quick cuts between the shooter and the cops make the scene feel chaotic, yet controlled and intense. Ward and Jakoby had started off in a panic but because of Ward's experience he then controlled the situation and lead them to killing the gang member, causing them to finally explore what was going on.
I really enjoyed the movie. Even though it doesn't have that somewhat goofy swagger that Men in Black had. It also didn't have the grittiness of the Expendables either. It was somewhere in between, not outdoing itself. The movie had a lot of potential to tell more about the racism in the multiple race structure and develop more of a story. But besides these down points, the movie was really well done. The special FX was done really well almost too well. Also the comedy in the movie made me laugh and the action scenes even though they happened at almost every turn, didn't seem too over the top like a Micheal Bay movie. All in all I believe that this would be rated a Bad Good, only because of the lost potential that this movie could've had. Despite all of that, I recommend this movie to anybody who loves action and or Will Smith, definitely not a waste of time and was enjoyable all the way through.
