The Battle of the Five Armies (Good, Bad)

The Film I watched was The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, This film was released in 2014. The Film focused on a Dwarf named Thorin Oakenshield, and a Hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, Thorin has gone mad with a disease the other dwarves call Dragon Sickness. While this goes on the movie shows us the battle over Thorin's current position. As the movie title says five armies are fighting over this, really its only three while the other two are attacking the armies trying to take over the world. This movie is great objectively, It is easy to follow and does great with continuing the story from the previous movies. The movie is visually pleasing to its viewers. It has a decent rating of 7.4/10 on IMDb, This movie has a great story even watching it by itself, but as you may have guessed it probably won't make much sense of what is happening.

The Film in my opinion is great other than one aspect of it. The scene with the multiple armies are fighting just seems wrong. Watching the scene you can point out mistakes in strategy and even bad writing. There is one part where a dwarf is just lightly tapping enemies with his head and it's killing them. If you notice these small details it begins to ruin the scene. Another detail is the strategy of the dwarven and elven armies teaming up. The dwarves form a phalanx to stop the orcs, but the dwarves have no where near the same troops as the orcs, this could have been better if the elves where to cover the open areas but instead they jump over the phalanx to attack the orcs, this is redundant. What the elves do cancels out the point of the phalanx and if it was a normal war they would have just been pushed onto the spears of the phalanx and killed, thus this was a horrible strategy. Another point in the battle is where it shows the elves and dwarves winning the battle then suddenly they just start getting slaughtered, if they would have showed something that turned the tide or even explained what happened it would make sense but it's just a sudden cut.  The ending of the movie was okay, it shows a bunch of the characters the movies worked hard on creating a personality for getting killed, it kills a relationship between a elf and a dwarf. While I'm on this subject the female elf that loved the dwarf, actually killed him. In the movie he was fighting off orcs just fine but then she calls his name, this distracts both the dwarf and her. While she is distracted she gets ambushed and he tries to save her, but ultimately dies because of this. If she were to just help fight instead of trying to find him, they both most likely would have been alive by the end of the film. Another issue is the fact that two dwarves were sent to scout a tower, after they enter it their leader Thorin, realizes it's trap and tries to get them back but suddenly there are like 50+ orcs inside the small tower and they capture one of the dwarves and kills him. This annoys me because the orcs are known to be loud and not good with stealth, so the fact that like 50 of them hid in a small tower without either of the dwarves realizing confuses me. This is only my opinion some other people may like the movie better but, enjoyed it but it got worse while the battle scene started, it ended okay other than the two points I just brought up.
