Strange Scene Doctor Strange
Last weekend I had the opportunity to watch the film Doctor Strange by Scott Derrickson. In the film, Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the role of the Doctor Strange for the first time ever, and portrays a new superhero unlike any other in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Doctor Strange is a refreshing superhero adventure loaded with absurd visual effects, the wonders of the mystic arts, and quite possibly the biggest and baddest superhero villain to date. The film also has a can’t-take-your-eyes-off-the-screen storyline where viewers experience a superhero adventure in a brand-new way. At the start of the film, Stephen Strange (i.e. Doctor Strange), is a world renowned brain surgeon with an over inflated ego who unfortunately gets in a terrible car accident that severed most of the nerves in his hands; ending his medical career. Over the course of the film, Stephen finds himself in the hands of some of the most powerful people on the planet who end up teaching him the ways of the mystic arts. In the film, every scene where magic is used has visual effects that are nothing shy of amazing. These shots are loaded with mind blowing bright colors and kaleidoscopic camera effects which are pure eye candy. Throughout the entirety of Doctor Strange, it was evident that a majority the of the scenes within the movie had a very high screen density. In this case, the high screen density was very beneficial to improving the quality of the film. By making sure that numerous scenes have a lot going on in them, Derrickson is seeing to it that the images catch the eye of the viewer. The use of extensive screen density, vivid colors and unique morphing of the screen is what sets this film apart from its other counterparts in the superhero genre as well as the MCU.
Personally, I love this film so much it’s unbelievable and for many many reasons. I am and always will be a major superhero fan. This film was a much needed installation to the Marvel franchise because they’re films were quickly becoming repetitive as they were all sequels. By adding Doctor Strange to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, As for the character Doctor Strange, I believe that Benedict Cumberbatch flawlessly played his part. Every obnoxious comment and impulsive insult is hilarious and just deepens the character development for Strange. I think that Derricksons decision to emphasize Strange’s intelligence was also a great choice simply because It brought me to respect him as a character especially because It reminded me he means well. Knowing there was more to him than just being a jerk made me enjoy the character a lot more. As for all the magic and crazy scenes, It’s hypnotizing watching all of the scenes where everyone is doing spells and folding mountains like they’re pieces of paper. I gave this film a GOOD GOOD rating. This is because I think its content was objectively sound and I overall enjoyed the whole film from start to finish.
