Daily Blog 5/14/18

(Plans, Plans, and More Plans)
Today's class was similar to last week's, where we continued to work on our screenplay individually.
Mr. Rivers also posted a quick question on Google Classroom, asking us to create personal deadlines for
tasks we wanted to accomplish by May 18 and 25, and June 1 and 8, and how we would plan on
completing them.
I spent my entire class period planning out the next few weeks leading up to when our screenplay,
press release, poster, and slide are due. I looked back on my screenplay's progress and tried to gauge how
much I think I could get done by the time those dates rolled around, and set goals for myself. A majority
of my goals were centered on writing the screenplay itself, but mainly the climactic fight scene at the end
of the film where the two main characters would confront each other, and more about their pasts are
revealed. This scene was the most important because it would take up about 10 pages of my screenplay
and would be where I expanded on the characters and the personalities. In order to write a successful
screenplay, I have to make sure the characters I had written were engaging and drew the audience in,
because my whole screenplay revolved around two characters mostly talking. The other main goals I set
were to start and complete the additional parts of the project by their due date because since I'm currently
putting all of my focus towards the screenplay, I have to keep in mind the extra work that comes after,
and the multiple parts of the assignment that we will be graded on.
To me, today's class felt similar to the profession of a meeting planner in an office or company, because
instead of working on my screenplay, I concentrated on planning out how I would complete it and when I
needed to get it done. A meeting planner's job is not very different, since their task is to organize and plan
the dates of when and where each meeting is held, and who will attend. Rather than dedicating their time
to the various topics and presentations that will take place during those meeting, they make sure that said
meeting is possible in the first place and if a complication, they try their best to resolve it by rearranging
dates and the people who attend. I felt that my class period was like this job because I chose to focus
solely on the planning out of events and setting goals, instead of continuing to write the screenplay that
would be eventually be turned in. I don't think I wasted today class though, because I think following a
set of loose goals will be helpful in the drafting process, and help me stay on track for the rest of the week
and the duration of the project.
