Daily Blog 5/2/18
Today Mr. Rivers opened up class by discussing our pitch for our narrative unit. He said that there are many ways to do the pitch, but he said the most important thing you need to know is specificity. Specificity is key because when you are writing your pitch, you need to describe what you want the script to be as best as possible. After we discussed this, we listened to a short podcast called “adventure” by Donald Margulies. After we listened to the podcast, we worked on our pitch that is due on Saturday evening. Yesterday, we talked to Mr. Ballard about what a good pitch consisted of, and we incorporated these ideas into our own pitch. What you need to think about including who, what, when, where, why, how. We used these in our pitch when we were describing what we were going to do for our pitch. We also described what our intentions were going to be in the pitch. I said that my intentions were to show how the setting affects the characters in different ways, how the dialogue shows characters different personalities by using word choice, and how the climax of the film affects the characters by showing they react to certain situations. Each person should have their own 3 intentions. In the real world, movie makers have to make pitches in order for them to appeal to people who want to sponsor their movies. Take Mr. Ballard’s job, for example. He writes reviews for people when he sees their pitch. If he likes the pitch, they will most likely get their movie made. If not, then the people have to change their pitch so it becomes better. While we were working, the bell rang and we made the finishing touches on our pitch, then we left the class.
