Daily Log Blog - Sean Patrick Scully III

Our Project is a Game of Golf

Good morning fellow classmates,
Today, class began with a brief pause where our class mates took out the necessary tools to be prepared for class, and as Mr.Rivers walked in, he turned on the projection and showed us a picture of a golf course. This golf course was shown as an analogy (that a famous writer used) for writing, and the main idea was that when you start at the tee, your goal is a very small hole, and it is very hard to go directly to the hole, so your goal as a writer is to take small steps to eventually get to the hole. Mr.Rivers also shared other analogies to relate to other writers steps to success: an architect, to plan out your writing beforehand, so you know exactly what to do when writing/filming. The last one was a gardener, who makes sure the soil is fertile and the seeds are strong, so that as your narrative grows, it all came from strong base and has a better chance of becoming a strong film/script. After Mr.Rivers concluded the analogy lesson, he instructed us to wish our fellow table mates a good, good morning, as he handed back our intention papers. After we got back our (hopefully) approved intentions, we continued working on our script/film.

From our introduction into the class, I think it is very important to use the golf course analogy for any short or long term goals you have in life. If you look at each successful individual, whether he or she is an artist, author, entrepreneur, or doctor, they each took small steps to get to the place they are and didn't just appear there. As a matter of fact, you can use any of the analogies to chase any large goal you have in life, or just a small daily goal you have for yourself.
