Very Entertaining Boxing Film with A Whole Ton Of Drama
ATTENTION SPOILERS!!
The film Southpaw is a very well made drama boxing film and does a great job in keeping the audience watching with whats going to happen next. The main character Billy "The Great" Hope is a junior middleweight boxing champion who has a great life. He has a loving daughter and wife and all is well until tragedy strikes and he ends up losing everything and his perfect life. He now has to work his way back up using his boxing background to get his daughter back and fix his family that fell apart after his wife died. The film does a great job on introducing the conflict of his wife dying and then having his daughter taken away.
Fighting child services to get his daughter back while also trying to fix his life and save his boxing career he is influenced by a man by the name Tick Wills. Tick Wills is the turning point of this film because Billy then starts to build his way back up after being trained by Tick Wills. This trainer for Billy helps him to turn his life back around again through all his hardships that he faced to make him the greatest again. This Drama helps the audience through all the sad moments especially when Billy starts to work his way back to the top again. This true especially with the biggest fight of the movie in which Billy is faced with one of the hardest fights of his career. Having his daughter back on his side after all that has happened helps him become the reigning boxing champion again. His life is not fully fixed because there is something still missing but enjoys having his daughter back and boxing career. The director uses hardships to turn this film into (in my opinion) a very well made boxing film.
