Today in class we analyzed the different allusions within the book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. With finding these allusions, we were able to dive deeper in Wade Wyatt's characterization and the setting of the novel. For example when Wade refers Dungeons & Dragons to describe his current setting it allows readers who have played the game to imagine what the setting resembles. Not only do the allusions breakdown the setting of the novel, but they help connect the audience to the characters. By Wade referencing different 80´s novels/films/games/etc, it lets the audience understand just how much he admires Halliday and he dedication towards the game. Analyzing these allusions were very helpful for me, it helped break down the book and it let me understand Wade Wyatt a little bit more.

After discussing the allusions in Ready Player One, we watched the alternate ending for the movie Get Out.  Afterward my group and I discussed which ending we enjoyed more, all agreeing that the alternative ending was the best. With the audience fighting for Chris throughout the whole movie, if the film ended with him going to jail not only would it be more realistic but it would create more empathy towards his character.

Overall by learning to break down the allusions, reading books or watching movies in the real world can become a lot more insightful. Now with the next book I read I am going to make sure to find the allusions to help me understand the text more.
