Be Reel Blog - IT - Julian Rodriguez

It is a horror based off of the 1986 book It by Stephen King, It follows a boy named Bill and his Friends as they try to deal with the monster known as Pennywise (aka the Clown). The movie does live up to its scary title as multiple times throughout the movie Pennywise tries to scare the audience with a mix of jump scares and slow drawn out sequences that create tension in the audience. One scene I remember in Particular scared everyone in the audience because no one was expecting it and it happened after one of the characters dealt with a very suspenseful situation and the scene as well as the audience was just calming down. The movie also does a very good job at representing each of the different characters with each having their own personality my personal favorite being the kid with the glasses also known as Eddie who constantly brought comedy into the scene even if it was very tense and the selling point was all the stuff Eddie would say felt natural almost if he came up with half of it on the spot. Another good thing about the movie is that they did a great job at representing the 1980s having fitting cars, references and clothing.
Personally though I hated the movie I have never been a fan of scary movies and I am not afraid to say I left the theater twice to calm my nerves however I would watch this movie again even if I cover my ears in pure fear for most of it. This movie entertained me and Terrified me in a way most movies can't and I hated it and loved it for that
Placement: Good,Bad

  1. I was in the movie theatre With julian when we watched the movie together. We always after something happened just looked at each other in awe and terror and explain what went down. As he said, he left the theatre TWO times because he got scared, while I stayed in like a champion among men. But one scene in the movie almost did It for me, It was the bathroom scene and at the time I was eating and when it happened I jumped back as the whole audience screamed. This movie is not like any other. There are not just two parts to it such as horror and tension. There is comedy, romance-ish, Seriousness, and also horror and tension. The movie has everything, Julian isn't a horror movie kind of guy but be enjoyed it because of the other tones in the movie. Jokes and jump scares are flying waiting around every corner and Everyone will laugh and scream. The tone in the movie is fear and comedy. The movie is beautiful at times and downright absurd at others. That's why so many people found this movie enjoyable, even though julian said he didn't like it, deep inside he loved the movie. I also did a review on the Movie IT giving it a good-good.

  2. Hey Julien, I watched IT not too long ago and I almost agree with all the points you made. Overall, my enjoyment of IT was very low, as I feel it had poor objective qualities, and my enjoyment of the movie was very low. The movie had a strong opening with Georgie getting kidnapped by the clown, but the movie fell off after that scene, and it fell off very hard. The rest of the scenes in the movie were not very scary, and the scenes not involving horror were very cliche. You have the typical group of nerds, bullied by upper class, and a new fat kid at the school who gets the worst of all the bullying. This plot is very common, and is not too enjoyable to watch. On top of this, the characters were not very interesting, and nothing about them really stood out to me as unique. After hearing such good reviews of the book and the movie, I was very disappointed to watch this movie and be so uninterested and bored in the movie. However, I almost agree with your rating, except I felt that the objective qualities were very poor, and typical.

  3. hey Julian, after watching IT I felt this review describes the film appropriately. Just one issue though, it felt like you could have described the good bad placement a little more. from the review it sounded like this was a movie you enjoyed and its objective qualities were also good. So i'm left wondering why it didn't get a good good rating. Other than that the review describes little details like the correct cars for the time period in the film, which i felt was good attention to detail. Proving your care for the movie.
