Class 11/6/17

Today in class we ended up going over allusions from Ready Player One again.  We started out the class as we normally do by walking in and opening our notebooks/ Chromebooks. Mr. Rivers then posted a word document on google classroom that contained chapters zero through seven from Ready Player One. We were asked to find as many allusions as we could in around five minutes. About half the groups got about five or six and then a couple got some in the teens, but in the end, my group got the best with around twenty-four allusions... not to brag or anything. After finishing that we were told to look at our group's allusions and separate them into two groups. The groups were setting and characterization of Wade Watts. For the setting, one of the groups found an allusion to dungeon and dragons. Another example was that there have been a lot of 80s references. For Wade's characterization, my group found an allusion that was from the terminator. Wade was explaining that when he is in school he scans the lunchroom like a T-1000  looking for a clique to fit in. This characterizes Wade by showing that he doesn't fit in with anyone.

This could be used in the world at large because we learned how to pick out and find allusions from different texts and movies. This will help readers depict an image better and help them really visualize what they are reading. This is helpful because if a reader has watched a movie such as a the terminator and read the quote from the book stating that Wade scanned the room like a T-1000 it would help them visualize what he is doing. Providing this illusion paints the  picture and makes everything clearer for the reader and that is why allusions are important.
